Last year, a very unique flying machine was introduced called the Switchblade, which takes off vertically and then switches to an airplane mode.

Havoc Heli Camera

Air Hogs Hawk Eye: Brand new for 2010 is the Hawk Eye, which is super cool! Hawk Eye has an on-board camera that takes pictures or videos while in flight! In the air, Hawk Eye can shoot up to five minutes of 320 x 240 video or snap hundreds of VGA-quality images with a resolution of 640 x 480. Back on the ground, a USB port allows you to offload that content to your PC or Mac.

The Hawk Eye also is equipped with the revolutionary new tail lock technology which has greatly enhanced the world of indoor flight. This built in software can detect flight instability and auto-adjust the rotor rotation to maintain balance, which results in an exceptionally stable and enjoyable flying – perfect for taking in-flight pictures.

Once you have made several video flights, Air Hogs has even provided some great editing software so you can mash your videos and pictures together, edit the length, and add cool images and sounds to personalize your videos. You can then easily upload them to sites like YouTube, Facebook, Myspace and show them off to your friends. You can access the editor here:

The Hawk Eye is the lowest priced camera-equipped Heli anywhere and provides tremendous fun and value – especially at such a low price. Just imagine what all you can do with a camera equipped Heli – This is really a super-cool Micro Heli!

Air Hogs Switchblade: New in 2009 – This is a really cool flying machine that hovers like a UFO on takeoff and then will fly like a plane. Operates from a 27 Mhz remote control and has a wing span of about 17 inches. The remote control has a throttle, direction toggle, trim knob, and “morph” button, making it easy for intermediate aviators to pilot the Switchblade from up to 300 feet away. You will want to fly the Switchblade somewhere with plenty of room, and it will take a bit of practice to “get the hang” of this machine. You should take it up quite high in the takeoff mode before switching to the plane mode so you will have time to gain control before possibly running into the ground. The durability is pretty good and you will have a lot of fun with this unique flying machine.

Havoc Heli Trim

One of the first problems that you will run into when you fly one of these micro heli fun makers is that they don’t fly worth a hoot right out of the box.  You will find that they will most likely spin wildly in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.  This is easily taken care of by clicking your trim switch on the transmitter, either right or left, depending on which direction you need to go in order to counter-act the spinning motion of your havoc heli.

Next, you will notice that getting the havoc heli to fly forward is not easy.  This is due to the front to back “balance” of the heli being off.  Usually they are tail heavy, so this kills your ability to produce forward motion.  The answer is to add a little weight to the nose.  The instructions say to add some metallic tape  to the nose, but this is a pain.  I found that a much better way, which provides for a nice fine tune adjustment is to use a straight pin in the nose.  You can push this in or pull it out to affect the balance quite easily.  If you need more weight that the pin provides, just visit your local glass bead shop and pick up some small beads that have a hole big enough for the pin to fit in.  Slide one or more beads onto the pin prior to pushing it into the nose of the micro heli and you will soon be able to get it flying  just the way you want.  Check the short video here for an example of this technique.

Welcome to Havoc Heli Info

Isn’t today’s technology great?  Who would have dreamed 25 years ago that you could now hold a 2 channel remote controlled micro helicopter in your hand that you could easily control and have terrific fun with – all for under 50 bucks?  My goodness, you can even do Havoc Heli battle now with a set of Helis that have the ability to shoot each other down – the Havoc Heli Laser Battle version is quite the challenge! I’d like to welcome you to my site where I will be pointing out some of the more popular flying machines that you will want to try out – both indoor and outdoor types.  Air Hogs has been making these neat flying machines for several years now and they just keep getting better and better.  If you already have tried some of these like the Havoc Heli, you know that they are made from very light weight materials and therefore will break if you are not careful.  The durability is actually pretty good considering the strength of the materials, but if you continually crash into a wall, floor, or other obstacle, you will eventually break something.  With a little care and common sense, you will get lots of flying time from these neat little flying machines.  In my next posts I’ll put up some examples of the latest Air Hog micro heli’s as well as their outdoor planes, and also their new addition this year called the Switchblade, which is quite a unique flyer for sure.

Looking forward to sharing some fun info with you, so if you have experiences you would like to share, tips, tricks, ideas that any of us fans of flying machines can use to have more fun, then by all means leave a post!
